School Peace Gardens: Growing Plants, Growing People, Growing Peace

Learn about the many benefits that peace gardens provide for students dealing with challenging behavior, lowering the incidence of bullying, and creating a school wide culture of beauty, kindness, and peace. Network with other educators who daily practice techniques to provide a calm, welcoming environment that in turn engages their students to learn and achieve. Learn how any garden or space on your school campus can be dedicated to peace. You will hear from students and teachers of Oahu schools who are in various stages of planning, designing and integrating school peace gardens. Also, learn about the Hawai’i Farm to School Hui’s new initiative, Hawai‘i School Peace Gardens Project: A Decade for Peace, 2020-2030 to grow this movement across Hawai’i. Resources on HIDOE’s Na Hopena A’o (HA) framework, social emotional learning, the elements of designing a peaceful space, and growing and sustaining healthy school gardens will be available.
This workshop is FREE and open to all students, educators and community members.
