'Āina, A.I., and the Next Generation of Science Teaching

The future of science education is constantly changing. Human impact on the environment is becoming increasingly quantifiable and concerning. The nexus of culture and science is growing. Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is increasingly used in our daily lives. What is the next generation of science education going to look like? Join the Hawaii Science Teaching Association September 16th, 2023 for our annual conference to learn and discuss the future of science education.

Our conference will take place in-person.

We will begin the day with a keynote address in the McKinley Auditorium.

We are excited to hear from Dr. Gloria Niles  Ph.D., Director of Online Learning, University of Hawaiʻi System

 The abstract for her talk:

In this keynote presentation, we will explore the intricate interplay between the wisdom of the land, the advancements in artificial intelligence, and the timeless qualities of human intellect. Drawing from both historical lessons and current realities of AI, this exploration will underscore the potential of intelligence augmentation, a symbiotic integration of the innate intelligence of Hawaiʻi’s rich environment, the distinct attributes of human cognition, and the promising capabilities of AI when harmoniously steered by human insight. As educators at the forefront of next generation science teaching, this session aims to equip attendees with a broader understanding of the vision of how to weave the threads of ʻAina, human ingenuity, and AI into a cohesive fabric of innovative education in Hawaiʻiʻ.

Breakout sessions will follow with presenters that include scientists, science teachers, and organizations. Breakout sessions will help you dive deeper into practices, activities, and opportunities of science teaching.

We will be sharing more on our speakers in the coming weeks. For now, here is a thumbnail list.
